Growing Mixed Colors Dimorphotheca (African Daisy) Garden Seeds

Mixed Colors African Daisy is easy to grow from seed and recommended for direct sowing outdoors after the frost. For earliest blooms, begin seeds indoors 8 – 10 weeks prior. Dimorphotheca seeds will germinate in 7 – 21 days with full lighting and harden off to a sunny spot in the garden or equally bright place indoors. Plant 2 – 3 Mixed Colors African Daisy seeds ¼” deep and 12” apart in average, medium moist, and well-drained soil in full sun. Dimorphotheca is a hardy full sun performer tolerant to heat and drought but can be susceptible to downy and powdery mildews if overwatered and not properly drained or ventilated. Cut back spent foliage, leaves, and blooms after flowering to prolong vitality into the fall. Plants have no serious pests or diseases but monitor regularly for aphids and white flies. Mixed Colors African Daisy seeds mature in 70 – 77 days as 12 – 14” tall shrubby uprights with a 12” spread of densely petaled “daisy-like” blooms.

Dimorphotheca sinuata, or more commonly known as African Daisy, is a member of the Asteraceae family, or the daisy and sunflower family, and shares similar features with both varieties. Dimorphotheca sinuata is native to southern Africa and Namibia but has been naturalized in similar dry climates across the world.
