DESCRIPTION
Growing Spurred Snapdragon Linaria Garden Seeds
Spurred Snapdragon linaria is very adaptable, easy to grow from seed, and can either be sown indoors or out. For earliest blooms begin 6 – 8 weeks prior to the frost. Linaria has a wildflower habit and may also be sown by broadcasting directly after the frost. Blend Spurred Snapdragon linaria seeds with sand to increase visibility during sowing and broadcast mix over a 10-square foot area and evenly rake and lightly tamp into soil. For traditional sowing, plant 2 – 3 Spurred Snapdragon linaria seeds ½” deep and 12” apart in hummus-rich, evenly moist, and well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Spurred Snapdragon linaria is native to cool Moroccan summers and performs well in shade during long summer months. Trim plants to provide proper circulation and avoid overwatering as linaria does not perform well in poorly drained soils. Linaria has no serious pests or diseases but monitor regularly for aphids. Spurred Snapdragon linaria seeds mature in 63 – 70 days as 18 – 24” shrubby uprights with a 9 – 12” spread of robust floreted “snapdragon-like” stalks in a vibrant mix of peach, canary, rose, cherry, ivory, yellow, orange, magenta, and white.
Linaria maroccana, or more commonly known as Spurred Snapdragon or Toad Flax, is native to the cool and temperate Mediterranean regions of Morocco, but have also been found naturalized as north as Spain, Portugal, southern France, and Syria. Linaria maroccana is a member of the Plantaginaceae, or the snapdragon family, and is reason for the plant’s “spurred” snapdragon like appearance.
