Sierra is open-headed lettuce that is green with red veins. The leaves are glossy and frilly, with crisp ribs. The contrast between the two is fantastic, as the ribs are crunchy while the leaves are quilted and delicate in texture. Slow bolting, which extends harvest periods and keeps leaves from turning bitter longer. A cold-weather crop best planted in the spring and the fall.
